- 2020, November Doctoral INPhINIT Fellowship funded by "La Caixa" Foundation

3-year PhD fellowship for early-stage researchers of any nationality

General information about the INPhINIT Fellowships and application process can be found here

Information on our project can be found here

Project name: "THE FORMATION OF PLANETARY SYSTEMS IN DISKS AROUND YOUNG STARS"

Place: Centro de Astrobiología (CAB-CSIC/INTA), at the European Space Astronomy Centre (ESA-ESAC/Madrid, Spain)

Supervisors: I. Mendigutía and N. Huélamo

Deadline for applications: 4 February 2021
Starting date: July-November 2021

- 2019, April Post-doctoral research contract funded by a "Talento Investigador" programme (Comunidad de Madrid, Spain, 2016-T1/TIC-1890, PI: Dr Ignacio Mendigutía)

Place: Centro de Astrobiología (CAB-CSIC/INTA), at the European Space Astronomy Centre (ESA-ESAC/Madrid, Spain)

Project summary: The selected candidate will reduce and analyze high-spatial resolution observations of young stars with protoplanetary disks, taken with state-of-the art instrumentation of the European Southern Observatory (ESO; GRAVITY/VLTI). In addition, the selected candidate could carry out his/her own research line within the context of star and planet formation.

Duration of the contract: 1 year, which could be extended depending on funding availability.

Requirements: PhD in Physics (Astrophysics branch). Previous experience reducing and analyzing astrophysical data will be positively valuated, specially if those refer to high-spatial resolution observations with interferometric techniques. Previous knowledge on star and planet formation will also be an asset. It is recommended to contact well in advance in order to deal with possible doubts related with the process or with any other aspect.

Estimated starting date: June/2019

-  2018, August: Conference "Gaia's view of Pre-Main Sequence Evolution: Linking the T-Tauri and Herbig Ae/Be stars". 18-21 June, 2019. Weetwood Hall, Leeds, UK.

-  2018, June: Workshop "Hyde and Seek: Where are the young planets?". PDFs with presentations and discussions soon here

- 2017, November:  Pre-doctoral contract offered for doing a PhD thesis under the programme "Talento Investigador"(Comunidad de Madrid, Spain, 2016-T1/TIC-1890, PI: Dr Ignacio Mendigutía)

Place: Centro de Astrobiología (CAB-CSIC/INTA), at the European Space Astronomy Centre (ESA-ESAC/Madrid, Spain).

Project summary: The student will focus his/her research on the study of intermediate-mass young stars surrounded by protoplanetary disks (Herbig Ae/Be stars). A fundamental part of the activities is to complete an online archive of such objects including their observational parameters, with special emphasis on the new data provided by the Gaia space telescope. In addition, the student will implement an analysis tool compatible with the archive. The successful candidate will use this and other, already implemented tools to study disk evolution around Herbig Ae/Be stars in relation with planet formation. This statistical study will be complemented with the detailed analysis of representative stars from high spatial resolution observational techniques. The student will have the opportunity to collaborate, among others, with the Virtual Observatory and CAB-UAM groups (Dr Enrique Solano and Dr Benjamín Montesinos), as well as with the ESA community in Madrid.

Duration of the contract: 3 (+1) years.

Requirements: Bachelor degree in Physics/Mathematics, with basic knowledge of astrophysics. A Master degree in astrophysics (finished, or in progress) will be positively valued, as well as knowledge of linux and programming. In order to apply for this position candidates should upload their CVs and related information to CSIC database, and they have to enrol at an official PhD programme in a Spanish University. It is recommended to contact well in advance in order to deal with possible doubts related with the process.

Schedule: Deadline for uploading the information to CSIC database: 1/Feb/2018. Estimated starting date: 1/Apr/2018
